Adopt Baby Mango
Hello, I'm Mango the Special Alpaca who has one eye!
I am a Suri alpaca. I have an amazing coat of brown with black highlights! I was born here at Severn Valley Alpacas on the 19th June 2026 to my beautiful mummy Lulu. I was born on the hottest day of the year and 3 weeks early! I’m quite famous I have been on the BBC and on the vets Facebook page and of course all over the Severn Valley Alpacas face book page. I have lots of fans now.
Mummy Lulu was doing great, but I could not feed from her as I could not stand up! so, mummy Loraine milked mummy to make sure I got my essential antibodies from mummy Lulu, then Loraine had to bottle feed me day and night for around a week! I also had to have extra fluids as it was so hot. I was doing great then I got an infection in my left eye when I was 11 days old.
The vet came to visit. The news was not good the eye was not viable and I was at risk of sepsis. Mummy and daddy discussed it all with the vet. Jointly they decided to give me a chance at life and I was scheduled for surgery to have my eye removed. Mummy Loraine kept me hydrated with hourly feeds and fluid top ups. Then off I went to the vets with mummy Lulu. Daddy took me with mummy Loraine.
I had the surgery and did great. The vet team said I looked like ET. Mummy Lulu was not keen on my new look and was feeding me but not enough so mummy Loraine topped me up with goats milk. It’s quite tasty you should try it. My pal Dave recommends it too.
I got stronger and stronger. I was doing so good that I worked out how to get my bandages of on a regular basis. Mummy Loraine kept putting them back on again. And against the odds I made it.
I was also in a competition to name me the winner called me Mango.
I have a brother now he was born after me he’s been called Chutney.
I am also friends with Rosemary the cat, she has one eye too!
At the moment I live in the girls field but soon I will be moving to the boys field. Then I will be trained up to join the trekking team.
